Adventurous, Eventful but scenic and beautiful hike to Zermatt. Well Zermatt is known for Matterhorn,Β a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Its summit is 4,478 metres (14,692Β ft) high, making it one of the highest peaks in theΒ Alps.Β The Matterhorn was one of the last great Alpine peaks to be climbed and its first ascent marked the end of the golden age of alpinism.[4] That climb was made in 1865 by a party led by Edward Whymper and ended disastrously when four of its members fell to their deaths on the descent. The north face was not climbed until 1931, and is amongst the three great north faces of the Alps. It is estimated that over 500 alpinists have died on the Matterhorn since the first climb in 1865, making it one of the deadliest peaks in the Alps.
Well for us, the climate was beautiful and made it a must do hike for the weekend. Zermat is a no car zone, so the car has to be parked 5 kms from Zermatt at Tasch and a train is to be taken to Zermatt π
Now without much boredome of facts, I leave you to enjoy the pictures.
Zermatt station – Electric vehicles
The chalets are beautiful and modern and still have a nice rustic feel on the outside.

You are so lucky and blessed
Nature welcomes you always
I am a bit envy at you
As I cannot even break
To escape and fly
The walls of my home town
You are so lucky

Thanks once again, my site loves you…so does not leave you so easily lol!!
I vividly rember Zermatt. We visited during 2008. A small beautiful town. Matterhorn was cloudy that day, even the ticketing staff at the base commented that if we were to go up for the view, we might be disappointed. I wish we had a place to live in places like Zermatt. However, for a typical South Indian vegetarian we couldn’t find the right food. So, we managed with bread. Good luck. Would like to visit again, if we get a chance.
So agree Neelakantan, we were fortunate to get there on a sunny day. I too am a vegetarian got good food at Zermatt but I can imagine 2008 would not be so many choices. Surely visit again. π And welcome to my site!!
candid clicks nice post
Thank you once again Rahul.
Oh a refreshing Post! loved the mountains, it is really soothing to visit places like this.
Totally therapeutic π Infact the hike track was 9.3 kms and the last train down was at 17.30. We missed it by 10 mins and I remember dropping tired on the ground not a soul, no birds, cattle, no hikers. I sat there tired, thirsty not knowing the way out. We called our hotel (full mobile signal at this height) and they said since its a car free town the only way down the mountain is to walk down. I just gave up then and sat there for 20 mins and then walked down the mountain for another 5-6 kms (not planned or expected). I remember the delight I had when I saw the town lights just to know that its a suburb and Zermatt is another 25 mins of walk, fortunately we got a bus and reached Zermatt. I hadn’t drank that much water for a life time after reaching Zermatt π
Lovely pictures! Have seen Jungfrau and Mt Titlis but could not visit Zermatt:(

Beautiful pictures. Is this the same peak around which the movie “Igor Sanction” starring Clint Eastwood was shot? An intimidating peak.
